Zliten

The Director of the Environmental Sanitation Office at Zliten Municipal Council, Mohammed Abuqumiza, confirmed on Sunday that the city's groundwater level has begun to decline.

Abuqumiza, through the municipal council's Facebook account, attributed this decline to efforts to address the environmental situation, including filling extensive swamps.

He also emphasized that the decrease in the Ka'am Valley Dam's water level was due to low rainfall this season and was unrelated to the rise in groundwater levels in the city.

Several areas in Zliten have experienced an increase in groundwater levels, leading to sewage contamination and the formation of stagnant pools, which have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and insects. Consequently, residents have been forced to evacuate their homes, and numerous buildings have suffered damage.
